The Twilight Singers - Dynamite Steps
Sub Pop | February 2011
5.6

Former Afghan Whigs leader, Greg Dulli’s current withstanding musical output vehicle, The Twilight Singers lay down their fifth album since their creation in 2000. Dynamite Steps continues Dulli and company’s tradition of high stakes pop with an overflowing sense of theatricality and bombast that it’s ofter overwhelming. The tracks shimmer like rockets but have no aim. There are Coldplay-ish rushes and tidal waves of apocalyptic pop magnitude that have no respect for subtlety and would rather explode in bursts of assaulting delicacy.
