Pop. 1280 - The Horror
Sacred Bones | January 2012
Horror indeed. The latest apocalyptic plunge and full-length debut from the Brooklyn band sees them taking no prisoners and dragging the listener from the bumper of their pickup as The Horror scourges and sours with its pointedly dismal demeanor which actually cages them into a limited range of filthy, no wave garage rock. With tracks covering topics such as bugs, dead girls, mass graves and so on and so forth, Pop. 1280 are meant for only a select, troubled few and couldn’t care less if you’re not into what they’re cooking. Nevertheless, the raged, uncaged sleaze dampers any possible light as The Horror is a wretched, poisonous romp and not exactly the best gateway into expanding your musical scope into the darker realm.
